'The Golden Mean’ – Finding the Sweet Spot
A coaching participant recently came up with a great analogy for finding ‘the sweet spot’, a challenge in our work & personal lives. He described a speed boat, low on fuel and with a hole in the front. He can either go fast so the hole rises above the water line, but risk running out of fuel before reaching shore. Or he can go slower to conserve fuel, but risk submerging the boat before reaching the shore.
Aristotle taught that achieving the ‘golden mean’ demands the right degree of response to the right promptings, on the right occasions, for the right reasons, to the right people. For us, it’s all about whether we see life as a marathon or a sprint. Inevitably, it’s both, it’s about getting the balance right!
