Reverse Mentoring - There's no such thing as a free lunch!

Mentoring is a fantastic development option, and whilst having dinner the other night with a much admired senior leader, he told me how he had recently been asked to mentor a promising young colleague. True to form he gladly agreed … on one condition … that the graduate mentor him in return! And his reflection was “I’ve learned so much from the young colleague, it’s been an incredible opportunity, and it’s made the mentoring relationship that much more effective.”

As ‘reverse mentoring’ becomes more prevalent it’s becoming ever clearer that the fresh eyes, open minds and connections to future technologies provide invaluable insights.
