I need time to think!

Working with a client the other day and their MD noticed that the directors were spending too much of their time "doing" rather than "thinking strategically". He challenged them all to look at what they did and rearrange their work to ensure that 25% of their time was devoted to thinking time. Or to look at it another way - "looking out of the window" a little more.

Interestingly, we left them with a copy of a great book by our own Keith Bleasdale- Leading with Impact, and on my next visit, was pleased to see that they had spent time using one of the models (p163) to analyse how much time they each spent in the Transactional, Facilitative and Generative spaces and were taking steps to drive towards a better balance.

Truly a case of there being nothing more practical than a theory...
